About me — October 28, 2024

Theatre — Before moving to radio & podcast production, I worked in sound design and operation for theatre production. I have sound designed several shows including The Accrington Pals at Wivelsfield Little Theatre between 2016 and 2019 and was an associate sound designer at Lewes Little Theatre in 2016. I also built and installed a custom AV system for Wivelsfield Little Theatre in 2018.

Radio & podcast — In 2021, I was station manager at Discover Radio, a pop-up radio station in Birmingham, UK. I was a producer and host of Behind the Peel, and have had work from that broadcast on Switch Radio. I was a producer and later Head of Production at Scratch Radio I co-hosted and co-produced a weekly Saturday night radio show from 2019-2020, I produced a weekly talk show in 2019, and created, co-produced and sound designed a series called Let’s Talk in 2020.

Documentary — In 2020, I was a reporter for Cities of Sound, which was broadcast on Greatest Hits Radio across the UK. I’ve produced works include Making Wharf Chambers (2020), a documentary about a queer co-op-run venue in Leeds, UK which broadcast on Leeds Student Radio, Searching for Wendy (2023) a short documentary exploring the relationship between trans women and making music (which is still in progress), and an even shorter documentary in 2024 about the Columbia Universtiy encampments for a free Palestine which is also still in progress. I am currently working on a documentary about swimming.

Writing — While I’m primarily an audio journalist, I do sometimes write things. In the summer of 2024 I was a journalist intern at Uncloseted Media, where I investigated several stories such as why 10 anti-LGBTQ hate groups have consulting status within the United Nations and how Timothy Mellon’s millions are funding anti-trans hate in the 2024 US election. Here, I was also a fact checker and copy editor for their first 10 stories to publish including stories on Project 2025, Christian homeschooling, and Mark Robinson.

Research — I am also a researcher! I co-authored a journal article in 2021 with Rachel-Ann Charles-Hatt called Reframing public service radio: The case of BBC Sounds published in the International Radio Journal about how the new (at the time) platform was further driving convergence in the audio industry. Also in 2021, I created Talking About Mental Health, a teaching resource rooted in research including a three-part podcast and workbook elements to help UK primary-age leaners better explore their mental health in a time when this was more important than ever but not being funded. Currently I am working with professors at NYU to explore creating a sustainable podcast archive.

This is not by any means an exhaustive list of work but, dear reader, it should give you a taste for the range of work I get up to. It was last updated on October 28, 2024. See previous versions here.
