The Sound of Trans Freedom, produced by Tash Walker for Aunt Nell, is an audio journey of four trans sound artists into the archive of Press for Change, a formative lobbying group that brought about the Gender Recognition Act. Tash asked the sound artists to use their imaginations to bring to life letters from trans people who wrote to Press for Change in the 90s and early 00s.
This piece looks back into our trans histories whilst holding space for what we are fighting for when it comes to trans rights today, a world that should hold space for trans people to not just survive but thrive.
The artists are Jesse Lawson, Kamari Romeo, naafi and Tom Sayers.
Mixed and mastered by Arlie Adlington.
Aunt Nell is a production company that works across time to honour voices that are excluded from history—and shape stories that reimagine the future.
The Sound of Trans Freedom was supported by an Engagement Grant from The National Archives.
